Special Operations Executive

The Special Operations Executive (SOE) was a secret organisation founded by Hugh Dalton and Winston Chuurchill before World War 2. The SOE's main task was to link up with the French resistance and as well as to undermine the Germans.

The purpose of the SOE was to

secretly sabotage bridges, railways etc. which were important to the Germans. When the SOE first started up it didn't have many agents in the field and also no really useful wireless communications. However in November 1940, after Luftwaffe (the German air force) had attacked London, just after the beginning of the war, the SOE started to recruit men and women, to work for them.

The SOE was also known as the "Baker Street Irregulars", because they were based on Baker Street, as well as Churchill's Secret Army.
